Beauty Express (2019 - ) is a guided tour of the southeastern United States, mostly outside metropolitan areas. It’s the largest scale (and slowest pace) I’ve worked within geographically, from Florida to Virginia so far, and a further push towards mixing documentary and fine art but also trying to incorporate pop art, postcards, and poetry by largely focusing on signs and symbols to communicate an immediate message through the image. It’s an attempt to glean meaning from the geometry, language, and architecture and deepen my understanding of the US South, where I’ve lived my entire life. The series is ongoing and I’m actively seeking residency opportunies to continue to work on it throughout the region.
